The Alagappa Legacy
Alagappa College of Nursing is part of the Alagappa Group of Educational Institutions, established under the Dr. Alagappa Chettiar Educational Trust. The group traces its origins to the vision of Padma Bhushan Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar, a philanthropist and industrialist who dedicated his wealth to education and community development in Karaikudi and the Chettinad region.
Over 80 years ago, Dr. Alagappa Chettiar began building a cluster of educational institutions in Alagappapuram, Karaikudi. Today, the Alagappa Group encompasses schools, colleges, and professional institutions spanning arts, science, engineering, education, pharmacy, and healthcare. Alagappa College of Nursing carries forward this enduring commitment to producing skilled, compassionate professionals who serve society.
The college offers a full range of nursing programs — B.Sc Nursing — combining rigorous academic training with extensive clinical practice in affiliated hospitals. Our graduates serve in government and private hospitals, community health programmes, and nursing education across India and abroad.

Dr. Ramanathan Vairavan
Chairman
Dr. Ramanathan Vairavan serves as Chairman of the Alagappa Group of Educational Institutions, continuing the philanthropic vision of Dr. R.M. Alagappa Chettiar. Under his leadership, the group has expanded its academic offerings and modernised its infrastructure while maintaining the core values of accessible, quality education.
Mrs. Devi Alamelu Vairavan
Management
Mrs. Devi Alamelu Vairavan plays a key role in the management of the Alagappa Group, with a special focus on the welfare of students and the development of healthcare education programmes. She is committed to empowering students, particularly women, through quality education and supportive campus environments.
